How to Dispose of Your Bamboo Toothbrush
When your bamboo toothbrush has served its purpose and it’s time to get rid of it you can do so with a conscience as clean as your teeth.
The bamboo handle is 100% compostable and will naturally dissolve without causing any harm to the environment.
The only little catch are the bristles which are made of nylon. Yes, nylon is plastic, but as of today there are no better options available. However, the amount of plastic used is still way less than if you would dispose of a toothbrush made of 100% plastic.
What to Do With The Bristles?
Best is to remove the bristles using pliers. Simply pull out the bristles and gather them in a little pile. Since the bristles are fairly small they can be hard to recycle so we recommend that you save them in a little plastic bag or bottle and recycle them once you gathered a whole bunch of bristles. This minimizes the risk that the bristles will get lost during the recycling process.
How To Dispose Of The Handle
You can dispose of the bamboo handle in your composting bin where it will safely return to the earth within 6 months. Even if you just throw it in the garbage it will break down within a few years.
Another option is to reuse the handle for something else:
- Use it as a garden marker. The natural handle looks great in the garden to mark your plants and veggies.
- Use it for cleaning. The brush is the perfect size to access those small areas where it’s hard to clean like around the sink and faucet in the bathroom or kitchen.
- Make crafts with your kids. Maybe your bamboo handle can be used to make a fun toy. Your child might have the perfect idea for it.
